Speeches, policy papers, constituent correspondence, and stakeholder communications β faster, without compromising the accountability standards that define public sector work.
This course covers three distinct roles in government β each with different obligations, different risks, and different use cases for AI. Sessions are designed to speak to all three.
β οΈ The FOI Accountability Test: "Would you be comfortable if this prompt appeared in Senate Estimates tomorrow?" β applied to every exercise throughout the day.
Draft speeches, media releases, and ministerial briefings faster without compromising quality
Structure policy options papers using a consistent, defensible framework
Write constituent correspondence that is empathetic, accurate, and action-oriented
Apply FOI, APS Values, and caretaker conventions to every AI interaction
Understand the absolute limits: classified material, Cabinet-in-Confidence, pre-Budget information
Leave with a prompt library and an assessed Office-Ready Pack capstone, built from your own current work β not sample material
Every exercise uses placeholder text. Classified, Cabinet-in-Confidence, and pre-Budget material never enters Claude β at any point during the course.
All exercises use placeholders. Real policy positions, figures, and ministerial names are added by you after generating the draft structure.
You are a senior government speechwriter. Context: 10-minute conference speech for a state housing minister addressing an industry roundtable. Key message: commitment to increasing social housing supply. Audience: developers, community housing sector, peak bodies. Task: Draft the speech. Use [MINISTER NAME] and [STATISTIC PLACEHOLDER] throughout. Format: Speaking notes style. Conversational but authoritative. Flag any claims that require data verification before delivery.
You are a government media adviser. Context: New regional infrastructure investment announcement. Task: Draft a media release. Use [MINISTER NAME], [PROJECT NAME], [INVESTMENT FIGURE], [LOCATION], and [DATE] as placeholders throughout. Format: Headline in active voice, under 12 words. Standard media release structure. Under 400 words. Include one ministerial quote in placeholder format.
You are a senior APS policy officer. Context: Policy options paper on [POLICY AREA] for ministerial consideration. Task: Provide the structure: problem statement headings, background section headings, and an options framework with Status Quo plus three alternatives. For each option: description, advantages, disadvantages, and implementation considerations. Format: Use placeholders for all figures, departmental references, and policy positions. Flag sections that require Departmental Secretary or legal clearance.
You are an electorate officer for a federal MP. Context: Constituent has written about difficulty accessing Medicare mental health services in a regional area. Task: Draft a response letter. De-identified β use [CONSTITUENT NAME] and [MEMBER NAME] as placeholders. Format: Empathetic, informative, with a clear next step. Under 300 words. Warm but professional government tone.
Government professionals operate under unique accountability frameworks. Every guardrail below is covered in detail during the course.
PROTECTED, SECRET, or TOP SECRET material must never enter Claude under any circumstances. Use your secure systems for classified work β AI tools operate outside your security boundary.
Cabinet submissions, NSC documents, and cabinet-in-confidence material must never be pasted into Claude. Draft the structure first; add real content only from within authorised systems.
Unpublished Budget figures, uncommitted expenditure, and pre-announcement policy decisions are market-sensitive. Entering these into Claude is a serious accountability risk.
AI-assisted drafts used in official documents may be subject to FOI. The accountability for every word remains with the author β not with Claude. Write accordingly.
APS officers must not use government resources for partisan political activity. The APS Values require impartiality β Claude training includes specific guidance for public servants navigating this boundary.
During caretaker periods, government resources β including AI tools β must not be used for partisan political activity. Significant policy announcements require Secretary concurrence.
